If you’ve read our Hershey Bears article, you know that our family loves hockey, especially in Hershey. And sure, you can get a decent meal at the arena, but the best pre- or post-game meal can be found at The Bears Den.
Located at the Hershey Lodge, the Bears Den is a family-friendly, hockey-themed restaurant that also celebrates the hometown squad from Hershey.

A sign reading “Welcome to the Den” greets customers as they walk down the hallway, past the Lodge’s gift shop, to the entrance of the restaurant. There’s also a glass case filled with Bears memorabilia, including equipment and jerseys, team photos, and awards.

The dining room opens up into an arena-like setting. The floor is painted with red lines and faceoff circles. Up above, banners commemorating the team’s 13 championships hang just as they do from the rafters of the Giant Center.
The menu is your typical sports bar fare with burgers, sandwiches and wings, along with some larger plates. I ordered a burger while my son, Jakob, ordered a kids slice of pizza.

While we waited for our food, we wandered into the arcade for a game of foos-hockey. He played as the Washington Capitals, the Bears’ NHL affiliate, while I played as New York Rangers (booooo). It was a long game, but he eventually pulled off a victory after my goalie “accidentally” ended up out of position a couple times.
OK, I may have let him win, but it was only because our food had arrived.

I dug into the smokehouse burger, which came topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, lettuce, and tomato. It’s a solid burger, and the brioche bun is a nice touch. The side of fries are good, too. Maybe they are not as good as the Crabfries at the Giant Center’s Chickie’s and Pete’s, but they are very good, and a great complement to the burgers.

I was happy to see that Jakob’s pizza was a legit slice, loaded with six slices of pepperoni that covered most of the surface. His meal came with the same fresh-cut style fries as my meal. I can attest that the pizza at the Bears Den is better than the in-arena option.

My meal was $22 (there’s a $2 upcharge for fries) while Jakob’s was $10. Add on an iced tea for me (kids’ drinks are included) and it was a $35 meal, about the same as we would spend in the arena but with bigger portions and higher quality.
And we had enough time after our meal to play one more round of hockey in the arcade before making the drive across town to the Giant Center for a real hockey game.
