Date of Visit: December 5, 2025
On a Friday night in December, looking for a place to grab an easy dinner after a long day in Wellsboro, we stumbled upon one of the more unique dining destinations we’ve found: Hume’s Blooms.
When the business showed up among the top restaurants, we had to look twice. Hume’s Blooms is a garden center (hence the “Blooms” in the name) but also a cafe with evening hours.
The business is located along historic Route 6 about halfway between Wellsboro and Mansfield in Tioga County. It was already dark when we left our hotel so we had to keep our eyes out for the turn and the long driveway that leads up to the barn-like building.

Outside the front door were three sandwich boards – one on the left and two on the right – plus two more blackboards highlighting the seasonal food and drink options. The full menu was hung in a glass case.

Stepping through the doors, you can see the duality of the business. One half of the space is filled with potted plants and assorted gifts while the other half had the order counter and ice cream freezer with a large digital menu board showing all of the options.

We took a minute to decide what we wanted before ordering. In thecenter of the building are a handful of tables with colorful metal chairs in front of a large fireplace.
The menu at Hume’s isn’t huge, but it feels like endless choices because all of the “specialities” as they call them can be made as salads, wraps, paninis, sandwiches or subs (whole or half). There is also a build-your-own option which only adds to the choices.

During our visit, Hume’s was offering a special chicken, bacon, ranch tater tot bowl that Julie couldn’t pass on. (Tots were a newer addition to the menu). The tots came topped with grilled chicken, bacon, tomato, onion, cheddar cheese, and ranch dressing. It was a hearty portion that she felt hit the spot on a cold, winter night.

For my meal, I ordered one of their specialties – the hot honey chicken on a panini. It comes with grilled chicken, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and sweet peppers with hot honey BBQ sauce and ranch.
There was some heat behind it, but it was a very good and flavorful sandwich. The hot honey BBQ sauce had a nice balance of spice and sweetness while the ranch dressing helped balance it out. The sweet peppers had a little bite to them as well giving it a lot more depth of flavor than I expected.
I had grabbed a bag of chips to have with it, but I only ate half because the panini was also hearty and filling.

For the kids, Hume’s Blooms has a decent children’s menu. For Lukas, our two-year-old, we ordered the chicken fries (and I donated some of my chips). He ate a few and Julie and I split the rest. They weren’t anything special, but with 10 per order, they do a good job of filling up the bellies of fussy little eaters.

Jakob, our eight-year-old, wanted mac and cheese. Hume’s offers loaded mac and cheese with any of their speciality offerings, but he wanted his plain so we got their large side order. The cup was filled with pasta smothered in light yellow, almost cream-colored cheese. He wasted no time in going through them.

While Julie and I just had bottled drinks, Jakob wanted one of their popping boba drinks that was advertised on the sign outside. He had the strawberry lemonade and loved it, especially the popping boba on the bottom.

Before and after our meals, we walked around the retail shop. Though we didn’t buy anything, it was mostly because we had a full day of shopping ahead of us the next day. The boys’ favorite part, though, was the small frog who lived in a glass habitat in the corner. The sign said that the small tree frog came in on a delivery so he now calls Hume’s Blooms home.
I’m sure they feed him well, but he can’t eat as well as the customers at the cafe. Hume’s has a great atmosphere, but it was also a very good meal. The prices are decent as well, with most options in the $10-$12 range.
Our first impression was a good one and will definitely bring us back the next time we’re in the area.
